Letters to Lutfi

Colombo, Feb.26th, 1967

Dear Mr.M. Sami,

In answer of your letter of Jan.23rd., Bapak would like to give the following explanation and advise with regard to Arif's case.

Arif at the present moment is in a state of confusion. That is why it's better to advise him that he should not be concerned and think about so many things, because the more he thinks and worries about many things, the more confused he will become. If he will be able to lessen his thoughts, worries and concerns, his fellings will baecome quiet and calm.

With regard to his latihan, it's advisable that he should not do laatihan for the time being, until he becomes quiet and calm.

With kindest regards and best wishes for Arif.

For Bapak
Moh.Usman

Dear Arif Niazi.

In answer to your letter of December 24, 1969, may I explain as follows:

If you keep in mind the size of someone's stomach it is not very big and if it is filled with one plate of food or more, it will be sufficient. But in your case, it seems that there is a certain power that helps your process in eating. Therefore, I suggest that you follow the way of eating that is prescribed by religion; for instance, saying Grace. The purpose of this is to prevent other powers from interfering with your eating. Or as a SUBUD Member, you should also quieten yourself before eating, so that you will feel that only you yourself are eating and not being interfered with by other forces. To make the matter clear I will give you an example.

If you eat, and at the time of eating your mind is somewhere else, this means that there is another power which ets your food by using your body, so that, in this case, God's Mercy is used up by the foreign power.

I hope that this advice will help you in cutting down your desire to eat so much.

Thank you.

With best wishes from the Secretariat.

My dear Luthfi Niazi,

Your letter of May 2nd, 1970, regarding your closest friend, Oguz Menthes, has reached me safely.

Bapak has mentioned, in his Talks and in his writings, that the spiritual Latihan of SUBUD is a Grace from Almighty God. This Grace, in those who have been Opened, is like a light unseen by ordinary eyes.

By doing the Latihan together, in a group, it is like accumulating several "candles" together, which give more light and strength than when doing the Latihan alone. Everyone participating in a group Latihan will feel in the Latihan, more strongly than when doing it alone.

Another aspect of doing the Latihan together, is the so-called "give and take". In doing Latihan in a group, one person who is not strong in a certain field, Receives from another Member, and vice versa, if he has more in a different field, he also gives to the other.

A person who prefers to do Latihan alone, all the time, will miss the possibility of Receiving the accumulated Grace Received in a group.

I understand that those who want to achieve high value in life, are often tempted to go away from this goal. And the temptations are many in kind, for instance: irregularity, laziness, boredom, etc., - - for whatever reason.

So dear Luthfi, I hope I have made the answer to your question clear to you.

With kind regards,

Sunarto Brodjolukito / Secr.

 SUDARTO MAY 1 1984

Thank you for your letter of 1st May 1984.

With regard to your question, may I give you the following explanation:

First of all, you should be aware that the vibration of the Inner self of the human being is much stronger than the vibration of the Inner of the materials, the inner of the vegetables, and the inner of the animals.

Because of this, the vibration of the used materials, will be in harmony with the vibration of your Inner self (worship God).

If these used materials are bought by people, then these used materials will give influences to the buyer to remember God and be afraid to act against the rules of religion and the rules of law.

I hope that this small explanation will help you to deepen your trust in yourself.

To end this letter, I only pray God may Bless you and your family.

Thank you.

Dear Luthfi,

In reply to your letter of September 7th 1971, may I explain as follows:

As you know, it is said that the sea or ocean is a place where all impurities from all countries, first channeled through rivers, will be purified. This means that all impurities will be cleansed and returnedto their former state, and origin.

Sea water itselfrf contains all kinds of minerals, for instance: glow, which clarifies the water and cleanses it of bacteria, salt, magnesium, sodium hydroxide, iodine etc.; etc.

As the sea water contains these minerals a doctor himself will advise his patients to bathe in sea water. Thus it is clear that to bathe in the sea is not wrong.

Regarding your experience, it was an indication for you that God is Merciful towards His creatures who worship Him. The proof of this is that when yur Inner tells you to wake up at midnight to think deeply and quietly about a matter which is of great interest to you, God Fulfilled your wish; this does not mean however, that the time has come for you to marry, or that it is imminent. There is no connection.

With best wishes from the Secretariat.

Dear Luthfi,

In reply to your letter dated May 30th concerning masturbtion, I would like to give you the following explanation:

As you know, masturbation is an action which is not allowed by religion. Because it disturbs the health and destroys the nervous system.

Usually, at the time that the seed comes out, the working of the mind stops, or the mind is encompassed by the feeling of bliss.

But this is not the case of masturbation; because one does it while concentrating one's mind towards a woman in his imagination, and this is in contradiction with the working of the nerves - it is not natural - and the person concerned will appear drowsy, not fresh, and usually he shows an attitude which is not full of life.

In fact, God Has Provided a normal way so that there will not be a surplus of seed, and that is by dreaming (wet dreams).

I hope that short explanation will fulfill your wish.

May God Bless you,

Thank you,

Dear Luthfi Niazi,

In reply to your letter of September 28 1986, may I give you the following answer.

First of all, you should be aware that a man who is not yet married ill never feel quiet and peaceful, because there is no place for his heart. Similarly, a woman who is not yet married, will never feel settled. because there is no place for her Inner self.

Later, if you would like to marry, you should go through the outer way (fulfil the requirements of the law) and the Inner way (religion). Marriage is one of the important steps in life, so the religious ceremony plays an important role in the arrangements.

As to whom you should marry, you should follow Bapak's advice as given in his talks:

For a man: If a man meets a woman, and at the time of meeting there arises a feeling of love, which is like the feeling of love towards his own mother or older sister or younger sister, the woman is a suitable marriage partner for him.

For a woman: If a woman meets a man, and at the time of meeting there arises a feeling of love, which is like the feeling of love towards her own father or older brother or younger brother, the man is suitable for her to marry.

Regarding your second question, you may do it, beause it is an enterprise.

To end this letter, I only hope that God may bless you to find your partner.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours,

Sudarto Martohudojo

Dear Luthfi,

Bapak's Boat

We were delighted to receive your letter and to hear that you are sending 200 (pounds sterling) through Barclay's Bank as your personal contribution to the Boat Fund. The check has not yet arrived, but no doubt will do so in the near future.

I think many of us feel very6 excited about Bapak's idea of a Subud boat, and several members have already shown interest, mainly in wishing to help through their knowledge of shipping. We have a high-powered team investigating the project, under the leadership of Edward Wygard, who has access to most of the information on this subject. First investigations seem to show that this will be a very long term project as evidently the purchase of a boat, new or second hand, is a long and complicated business, and could take up to four years - even if we had the money, which of course we haven't at the moment.

I have just looked up the photograph sent by Antony Druce of some of the members in Cyprus, to see if you are on it, but it seems that you were not present on this occasion - a pity, as it is always nice to see a photograph of the person one is writing to. Have you decided yet when you will be going to Tjilandak?

About 22 people are going from England on the 3rd November on a charter flight. They will be staying four weeks - for the duration of Ramadhan. The party is being arranged by Barry Sullivan and the cost is 210 (pounds sterling)

If you are interested in joining this flight, you should write directly to Barry, at 9 Elms, Jordan's Way, Jordans Bucks., UK., sending yur cheque for the full amount.

I expect you know that yiou need a Visa for Indonesia, which you get from the Indonesian Embassy, and also inoculations against smallpox and cholera.

With all good wishes,

Yours in Subud,

Rosabel McCloud
International Secretary
