Talk to helpers and committee, with Bapak's answers to their questions.
It is not Bapak who is the cause of the situation here. You yourselves, you who are present here know the causes. It cannot be Bapak. But in Bapak’s case if he looks for causes, he looks not from the outside but from the inside. Brothers and sisters, this may perhaps concern other people. Although Bapak's point of view is an inner one, yet it is more external than an outer one. From an outer point of view this is a local matter, which means only this place here, but if it is from within, it includes everyone.
Brothers and sisters, as a general rule, the German members or the German people like to work, and they also like to use their minds and hearts. Indeed, that is like a natural law; the Germans are people who work industriously, so that whatever they do is quick to produce results. With the Latihan Kejiwaan of Subud, you become as if you were drugged, and then you go right over into the kejiwaan, whereas the kejiwaan, brothers and sisters, as Bapak has often said - the kejiwaan is godsdienst; the kejiwaan is God’s work. Thus development in the kejiwaan depends upon the One Almighty God and is based upon people's surrender and patience. After you have received this Latihan Kejiwaan, you feel that it is this life that is necessary; more necessary than human needs in this world. In that way you become lacking in the normal development of human beings, which means the pursuit of worldly things, the pursuit of money.
It is because of this that Bapak now combines something else with the receiving and practice of the Latihan Kejiwaan - which is the work of God and in which you need only to receive with patience, trust and sincere submission - and Bapak urges you to do enterprises.
Thus it is clear that the enterprises you do are not really connected with the kejiwaan, but the kejiwaan is always in control. Of course it is difficult to combine this with worldly needs. If you do the latihan diligently, it is as if you already have enough of everything, and as if you no longer require the conditions for life in this world. Thus you draw closer to the life of the hereafter and further away from the life of this world. Of course that is also good, but it is out of place.
As Bapak says, the kejiwaan is God's work, and guidance in the kejiwaan is from the One Almighty God. Human beings have only to receive it, while for your human needs in this world you use your minds, which you have obtained by God' s decree; that is, you use them for enterprises. And it is for this reason that Bapak therefore does not feel disappointed nor does he blame you, if ten people come and ten go, or if a hundred come and a hundred go, as Bapak explained to you yesterday in Wolfsburg.
Thus it is clear, brothers and sisters, that these two cannot be separated, but they cannot both be done in the same way. For the one is done by God and the other by human beings. In God's work in the kejiwaan, what you need is patience, trust and sincere submission. In doing the work of this world, you must not involve the kejiwaan, as by testing and so on. That causes things to slow down. If you ask God for help in worldly work, such as buying and selling, that is out of place, because God will not give you any answers concerning such small matters. The nature of the kejiwaan means that it is very great, for after you are able to receive guidance from God, you will turn your jiwa, together with your worldly knowledge as human beings, in a direction that reaches a very long way, so that you can understand and so that you can receive what the will of the angels is like, and what the will of the messengers of God is like; the will to stand in the presence of the One Almighty God. That depends only upon the characteristics with which people are endowed.
The fruits of the kejiwaan produce a feeling of social responsibility. How can one sell merchandise if one has a very great feeling for society? Every action must be one of sharing it is based upon the kejiwaan. If, for instance you sell some goods and make a profit of ten dollars, the social feeling which you have got from the kejiwaan will mean that you must share the profit, so that five dollars goes to the buyer and five to the seller. Thus both of them will feel that it is fair, and so you can make progress.
Moreover, the kejiwaan is something that Bapak just called a field; the field of human worship of God, for the life of human beings after they die and leave this world. Thus the fruits of the kejiwaan can all be said to be for your life after you leave this world. Perhaps you ask whether that is really of any benefit or not; can its benefit obtain good fortune for you in this world. Then the answer is no. That is why Christ gave himself up to be crucified, gave himself up as a sacrifice for the people. For it is different there from here. There it is called heaven, which means that the pleasures of the here and now cannot equal the Joys of over there. By comparison, they are not even one percent of the joys of heaven. Thus the joys there in heaven, the life of human beings there, if they have been successful in the spiritual life, cannot be compared to any of the pleasures to be had in this world.
Well, Bapak now comes back to it again; how is it for human beings living in this world? For people living in this world need food and clothes; in short all the things of this world. These have to be sought with the nafsu; that is, with the mind and the heart. It is the mind and the heart which employ the nafsu as instruments. Nafsu is will or desire. This will is divided into various kinds. There is a will which is very greedy and will not allow others to live, but only itself. There is also the nafsu that wishes to live better than others, but also allows others to live. There is also the nafsu that wishes to possess everything and only to leave a very small share for others. There is also the nafsu that wishes to share equally and is more sympathetic to the general needs of society.
These are the nafsu. All of them are the instruments of the mind and the heart, and they are not insignificant. The jiwa has no instrument except surrender to God, for the kejiwaan is mankind's worship of God.
It is like what we have in the religions. Is there any religion that deals in material commodity? There is none. Thus religion only obtains money and the means of life from the people who engage in trade, from the general public. That is why it is therefore laid down that every year or every so often, the general public are required to give donations, to make contributions to their religion. For religion cannot engage in trade; religion only worships God.
For us this is different, but yet the same. Its content is the same, but its nature is different. We are Subud people, we receive this Latihan Kejiwaan of Subud, so our nature is similar to that of religious people. But religious people only follow what is written in the scriptures, whereas for us, our religion is inside us. So that each and every Subud member who has received the Latihan Kejiwaan of Subud can be said to possess something that can worship God of its own accord, not like it is in the religions. Thus what exists in the religions and what exists in the life after death is not something that we have to learn to know, but indeed we do know it and we can understand it.
Well, that is why Bapak proposes that at the same time Subud should establish enterprises. Then it will be so that the enterprises help the kejiwaan side of Subud and pay for it. You must run businesses. In the case of the religions, they are helped and supported by the public, which means that the religions are separate from the people. Religion provides the way to obtain the forgiveness of God, because it is the religions that do something actively, and the public only has to receive what is done. Or that is what they say.
For us it is not like that. Whether we are forgiven or not is something that we have to be able to receive and understand for ourselves. This is how it is. So it is for that reason, brothers and sisters, that Bapak also proposes something which you have perhaps been able to understand and to receive; that a body of experts should be established in the organization, in the committee or in the enterprises. And this body of experts is needed in order to give advice and in order to survey what the members who run the enterprises are doing.
Thus it will not then be necessary for anyone to run an enterprise on a basis of testing. That is not the duty of the helpers. The helpers themselves do not understand how to test in the field of enterprises. They cannot do it. On the contrary, that is the reason why so many of the members who run enterprises actually come to grief, as Bapak has heard, and they do not actually achieve any success. On the contrary, they actually fail, because they only lean upon the helpers' testing, whereas it is not the work of the helpers to test the buying and selling of goods or to test about enterprises. No.
It is thus enough to act upon the advice of experts, upon the results of a survey made by the body of experts that we have formed. Thus we have to have a body of experts formed in Subud - experts in trade, for instance, in forestry, in building, in engineering and machinery - so that anyone who is going to run an enterprise should go to the experts for advice. And then those experts will conduct a survey or investigation to see whether the field in which the enterprise is to work is a good one, and able to produce profitable results. They will also see whether the people who ask for advice about running an enterprise possess some foundation and possess some skill in that particular sphere. In this way we shall really run enterprises in the normal way and at the same time we shall be protected by the power of God. That is where the difference lies.
Brothers and sisters, it is of course difficult to do that, but not difficult for us. Why not for us? Because we are surrounded by the power of God; that is, by the presence of the Latihan Kejiwaan which you continually receive and follow. But although we do things with nafsu, although we use nafsu and mind and heart just like ordinary people, yet we shall not forget our worship of the One Almighty God. It is different from what has happened in the past, where there has been a division between religion and the people. For now the general mass of the people are more developed. The more developed the minds of the people, the further away they are from religion.
People who are very clever say that religion is nonsense, for they are say that we cannot know God. Indeed that is so. But you, brothers and sisters, even though you may be clever, you have witnessed the existence of a life within your selves, so that you automatically believe in the existence of the One Almighty God. It is like this.
Thus the things that have been happening for a long time, the fact that people put themselves at a distance and separated themselves from the One Almighty God, are now being reversed and brought back to the way it was in the time of Adam. At that time human beings were close to the One Almighty God, so that whatever Adam did, whatever the prophets did in those old days, they did not forget their worship of the One Almighty God. This is the way that the world becomes peaceful. You have experienced proof of this for yourselves. So long as you do the Latihan Kejiwaan, or when you do the Latihan Kejiwaan, your feelings are different from what they were before you entered Subud and received the Latihan Kejiwaan. Now your feelings are calm; calm and clear, as if they are now satisfied.
Well, a feeling like that is a spiritual feeling. You must not employ feelings like that in your role as business people; that is in doing enterprises. How can you make progress in your role as business people in running enterprises if you are patient and calm and feel satisfied? That is a situation in which you need to use the nafsu.
Thus you are not now forbidden to use the nafsu, provided that you use them in the right places. The nafsu are will, desires. Thus it is all right provided that this will is used in the right places, so that it will really benefit your lives and does not take away from the freedom of other people.
For example, you may have the will to make something very powerful, such as a firearm. How could anyone make a firearm except with the nafsu? It would not be possible. Nor would it be possible without the mind. Nor would it be possible without the material forces. It is because of all those things that you are able to make firearms. But because your ability to make firearms is under the protection of the One Almighty God, these weapons wall really be used in the right way. That means that they will be used when there is danger. If there is some danger that you cannot avoid, only then will you use these firearms. But without the protection of God, you would use them at your own will, to pursue your own aims and interests, so as to become powerful. So you would use these fire-arms to kill other people. It is against this that you have to guard. Thus the uses of this latihan are very extensive and very great.
Brothers and sisters, it is necessary for Bapak to explain why your efforts in the field of the enterprises you are now running go the wrong way, and why you cannot make progress. It is because for years a reduction of the force of the nafsu has been taking place in you.
These nafsu have come down to you from your ancestors, and they are very firmly woven into your selves. Thus of course if you wish to reduce them, you cannot get rid of them very quickly. Of course it is done little by little. If it were not because of God, it would not be possible to do it at all.
So in this case, brothers and sisters, Bapak urges all of you to do as Bapak has already suggested in the past. Perhaps you have not paid very much attention or perhaps you have forgotten what is now necessary is for you actually to form a group, a group of experts, as has already been done in Indonesia. Thus there are experts in forestry, experts in every branch of industry, experts in making bread, experts in making all kinds of things, like Mr. Cadera. You must have all of these. Thus the members who wish to open an enterprise have to obtain advice as well as understanding or know-how from the group of experts. In this way you will really be able to run the enterprises properly, and it will not be like it has been in the past.
You look to see whether you can do this. Yes; your seeing is still impure. That means that, as Bapak said just now, the influence of the material forces is still very strongly interwoven into your selves. Actually, if it is expressed as a percentage, the way you think, the way you feel, is, at the highest, five per cent from your human jiwa, which is filled with a content of the socially conscious Jiwa. Ninety-five per cent is influenced by the lower forces, or by the material forces, whose content or kernel is one of anger and greed, of the desire for one's own advantage, of the desire to have a good name for oneself, while the social feeling part of it is very small. So possibly this explanation of Bapak's will therefore touch upon all, or at least a great part, of your questions as to why the progress of Subud cannot proceed rapidly, but is always slow, and may even go backwards.
This is how it is, brothers and sisters, and so of course everything brings its sacrifices and meets with its hardship and bitterness along the way. In Javanese this is expressed in the saying: Jer basuki mowo beyo, ( Thus there is no happiness to be had in life without following a path that is bitter and difficult ).
It is as if one becomes a trader but at the same time doubles as a priest. How can one make any progress? Well, for other people it is not possible to do this, but for us, we can. For we are governed by the power of God, which means that we have been able to receive that power, so that even without thinking very much in running our enterprises, we still continue to work.
Thus we Subud people can become priests and we can also become traders. Can we do this? Bapak himself is an example of it.
Bapak has now become President of the Kommissaris or Board of Trustees of the Bank. Yes, and he has become President of the Kommissaris of P.T.S. WidJoJo. He has become President of the Kommissaris of a company that imports and exports equipment for the requirements of the Indonesian Government; that is, equipment or machinery from Germany, from France, from England. He has become President of the Kommissaris of a shipping company, which is at present perhaps the smallest. Why is Bapak able to do all this and still deal with the Kejiwaan?
It is thus clear that the One Almighty God rules over everything that exists. Thus however far the human mind has reached - the human mind which up to now has been able to construct nuclear devices and to get to the moon - yet God is always higher than it is. And this is also the way Bapak goes. That is why Bapak is not the less clever as a human being, so that he understands things that he has never learnt about. Well; this is from God.
Is it possible for this to happen? There have been examples of it. From where did Christ learn? From where did Abraham learn? Also from where did the prophet Muhammad learn? Yet these became men whose wisdom exceeded the wisdom of all others. Their opinions cannot always be followed by the rest of mankind. That is a proof and an example.
That is how it is, brothers and sisters, and so although this explanation of Bapak's has not been very extensive, you can nevertheless draw from it the conclusion that it remains necessary for you to do enterprises, and that these will be like a great pillar for our spiritual brotherhood of Subud, and will support it firmly, so that our spiritual brotherhood of Subud, regarded from outside, will be like a great building with sturdy walls, and from the inside it will be like something very wide and far-reaching in its aims, so that it reaches up to the One Almighty God.
That is how it is, brothers and sisters, so any others of you who wish to ask questions may put them forward. Perhaps you also need some explanations that you can receive and feel.
( Questions )
Now Bapak will try asking a few questions. First Roland Cadera, who is an expert in making bread. Have you ever at any time been faced with some tiresome situation, so that at that moment things are stripped away, peeled away, from the inside?
( Sharif ) In particular he has experienced this in difficult work, when he has had a new worker, and when he needed to obtain guidance. At such moments he could know, "Yes, that is right" or "No, that is wrong".
( Bapak ) This is success. We worship God, so that we truly have a teacher within us. Yes, it is as if when we are afraid to do something, the way to do it is there. It is there. There are other ways.
Yes, of course that is a kind of business; that kind of work is more like an industry, a business. Now what about Vincent Sillem and his work? Has Vincent Sillem ever had the experience of being told to do something that was very difficult, but yet he could do it?
( Sharif ) He is asking whether Bapak can give a little illustration, because Bapak said that there are some problems which are not allowed to be tested by the helpers. So what sort of thing may be tested?
( Bapak ) Yes; have you already done it? Now how is it? For instance, now; someone who is only up to primary school standards is asked to test the intelligence of the high school. He has the will, but not the ability to do it. Thus it is obvious that this testing must be looked into beforehand, to see who is to test.
Are the people who test usually still very much influenced by the lower forces, which Bapak said just now were ninety-five per cent of the whole? In that case, what is tested will of course go wrong more often than not, more often than it goes right. Try now, like this. Relax.
( Testing )
Finish. Like that. That is just an example. Thus everything is directed towards God; then you receive. You must not feel that "I am testing" or "This is my cleverness". You must not do that; that is to be influenced by the lower forces. In addition, it is wrong if you think "I am a helper".
It seems that he does not yet understand, but perhaps he will understand from the questions of other people. There are still two questions left; the others have been answered.
( Sharif ) Among the groups both here and in Oslo, about a hundred Subud members are listed. Those of them who are parents would like to know how they can guide their children in parallel with what we have in Subud, because every day these children are exposed to the influences of modern life. And they also want to take part in this modern life, so that they are influenced by all sorts of bad sources. Now can one describe Subud to them in such a way that they will be drawn to Subud and to what exists in Subud, which is not too much influenced by bad things?
( Bapak ) The chief figure in this, which plays the leading role and presents the greatest problem, is the jiwa. Thus although they are outwardly educated by teachings which are said to produce well taught human beings, human beings who have compassion for their fellow creatures and who are willing to act honestly and in accord with the common needs of society, yet people still also do things that are wrong. Why is that? It is because of their jiwa. This is it. If the jiwa is said to be the chief figure in human life, then the jiwa is necessary. And this jiwa has been insured or underwritten by God. That is the reason why the one and only way is none other than to worship God and to do the Latihan Kejiwaan of Subud.
That is why Bapak urges you to do enterprises. An enterprise is a human effort in a worldly field. Enterprises are of many kinds; working as a laborer, for instance, farming, industry, trade or buying and selling; Yes, all sorts of things; all the ways in which people work so as to eat, so as to earn their food and clothing and to live securely and well.
Because the children are children, they are not required to do the Latihan Kejiwaan, but their parents are. In religion it has been laid down that children below the age of eighteen are the responsibility of their parents. Thus children who are not yet eighteen or more - in religion it is those who are not yet ( of legal age ), not yet sixteen - supposing these children do the fast, it is their parents who receive the merit of the fast, not the children. In saying that, of course the goodness or otherwise of the children depend upon the parents. Thus the jiwas of children who are under sixteen can be good, and very good, if their parents carry out their worship of the One Almighty God properly. But when the children are over sixteen - or, in the case of which we now speak, over eighteen - they need to do the Latihan Kejiwaan for themselves. This is now clear; the children who have been born after you came into Subud are different from those born before you came into Subud. They are very different. The children born after you came into Subud can do it themselves. Stewart ( Horthy ) is Sharif’s child. Why is he able to do this himself, of his own accord, automatically?
Thus it is clear, brothers and sisters, that Subud children aged sixteen and over - or eighteen, as it is nowadays - may be opened. But those who have not yet reached that age are dependent upon their parents. If their parents ere faithful in doing the Latihan Kejiwaan, this will happen automatically for the children. Bapak himself did not open his grandchildren, such as Muti, or Rahayu and the rest of his family. I opened none of them, not even Aji, but they received automatically. They understood, and they could receive and understand.
Because, as Bapak said just now, brothers and sisters, everything is still under the One Almighty God although people think that they can think in the ordinary manner about things which are remote from them - it is thus clear that Subud children are not prohibited from taking part in the progress of this era. On the contrary, God wills that Subud children should be able to get to Jupiter and be able to discover or invent equipment even more advanced than what we have at present.
Did human beings exist in this world a million years ago? If Bapak looks at this from the kejiwaan, brothers and sisters, your progress at this present time was far outstripped by the progress of the people of a million or two million years ago. This was already clearly known to Bapak even before he had read anything about it, and before there was any news about the ruins of huge buildings of marble in the great Atlantic Ocean, Bapak had already received and understood about this. Bapak says that human beings have existed in this world for much longer than people can think. Human history only covers the past twenty-five or thirty thousand years, yet it is not like that, but there have been human beings in this world for millions of years. Skeletons dating from three hundred thousand years ago have been discovered in the Solo Valley in Java, and similar skeletons have also been discovered in China which are about five or six hundred thousand years old. It is thus obvious, brothers and sisters, that anything written on paper will have disappeared whenever anything inscribed on steel or stone would have decayed and returned into the soil again after five hundred thousand years.
Thus it is clear that God does not forbid human beings to advance and to make progress. God always has compassion upon them and always allows them to make progress. This is what is necessary for our descendants; however far we progress, we should always remain mindful of the One Almighty God, and remember that it is God Who has created all things.
( Sharif ) In the course of the next few weeks, they will be signing a contract with the City of Brunswick by which they obtain the use of this property, including the other buildings that go with it, for a period of fifty years. This complex can be said to be very extensive, and up to now they have not found the way to exploit it properly. Supposing that Bapak has any advice to give on this subject, they would be very grateful for Bapak's views.
( Bapak ) Bapak said just now that in fact it is out of place for God to take part in thinking about Wendhausen, because this is for human purposes and interests. Because of that, the way you look at this must also be based upon some foundation. Supposing we sign a lease on the property, then we become responsible for it. And because this world is always changing, suppose the state needs to take the place aver, we cannot do anything about it, because in this world it is the state that possesses power. Or supposing that the state needs this property for some purpose or other, for instance, will we then be prepared to let it go whether we make a profit or a loss on it? Well, those are the things we have to think about and feel. Bapak needs to inquire about this. If you have already thought about things like that and considered whether or not you are going to lose by it, then Bapak agrees if you sign a lease for fifty years. Bapak means whether it reverts to the state only after fifty years or is taken back before that. Who knows whether you yourselves will be able to use the place for twenty years more or thirty years more? But if you can use it for fifty years, then you are lucky. Because it will not be long before there are changes here. Bapak does not need to describe these, but if you have a fifty-year lease you are in luck. What have you been able to hear? Is anything happening hereabouts?
( Sharif ) They say that there are two things, Bapak. One is that oil bearing rocks have been discovered under the ground here. And supposing that this oil can be extracted from the earth, everything around here will be altogether changed, and there will be a lot of large factories. And Wendhausen itself will no longer be included in this district, but the whole neighborhood will be changed. Apart from that, there is another possibility, which is that the political balance between east and west can also change at some time.
( Bapak ) Yes, indeed; the world is always changing. Thus it is clear that you must not abandon your Latihan Kejiwaan, because this world is always changing. Indeed, this district does contain many things. It contains many things that can be profitable to the country.
( Sharif ) There is more. What about the Israelis, Bapak? Do I need to ask about it? Broadly speaking, At can all be said to have been answered already, and supposing there is anything specially for them, it can be done by letter.
( Bapak ) As a rule when Bapak is speaking, once he has begun Bapak never uses any prepared material in giving a talk. No; it is as if what Bapak is saying is already there. That shows that it is the One Almighty God, not Bapak, who is clever. No. Bapak eats good food, eats cheese, eats butter. He also sleeps comfortably. Thus he is just like other people. Yes, Bapak has actually been sleeping a lot while he has been here.
( Sharif ) There is one question. This member still feels that where Israel in particular is concerned, they ask for one more explanation about the relationship between the helpers and the national committee.
( Bapak ) Yes; it is like the explanation Bapak has already given. The human self is inhabited by lower forces which cannot be separated from the self. And all these forces equally make use of the self. People think, and the lower forces take part in their thinking; they join in using the thinking. A human being wishes for something, and the lower forces take part in the wishing. Thus it is clear that human beings cannot separate these forces from their selves. Who or what is able to mediate or to form a dividing line and to make a separation between the influences of life is only the power of God. And the power of God has been embodied and manifested in the Latihan Kejiwaan of Subud. Because of that, the most important thing is that there should not always be differences made in status amongst ourselves, or between helpers and committee, and they should be one according to that middle line; yes, according to the power of God. It is therefore very necessary that the helpers and committee members should do latihan together. And in doing latihan together, there must be no feeling of "You are a helper; I am a committee member" or of "I am a committee member, you are a helper". You must not feel like that; you are all worshipping God together. In that way you will be able to receive guidance and direction, so that the influence of the lower forces which cause divisions amongst you will no longer be present.
This is actually what is important, brothers and sisters. This is the secret of life. For all of you who have husbands or wives, then in fulfilling your obligations as human beings - that is, in intercourse between man and woman - then every time you do this, and every time a man has intercourse with his wife, or a wife with her husband, you must not let go of your worship of the One Almighty God. The content of your inner-feeling should be one of "God, God, forgive me all my sins, and forgive me all my faults and mistakes." This can be felt; eventually you will be able to feel and to understand what are the uses and benefits of the union between man and woman; of husband with wife and of wife with husband. Yes, that is what is most important.
That is all. Bapak is bound to get tired if he does all the talking.
( Sharif ) There is a question about what Bapak said just now when he mentioned the name of Hitler ( in the testing ). He is an example of a man who can obviously be said to have been full of very bad things. Is such a person obliged to suffer for ever? Or is there a hope, even for such a person, that eventually he will obtain the mercy of God?
( Bapak ) Before he dies. But after he dies, no. It is like something already written. Thus if there is anyone else like that, he still has a chance to beg for forgiveness by worshipping God. That is why it is necessary and profitable to worship the One Almighty God. So if there is anyone else like that, it would not then be like that for him; not like that, for he still has a chance.
( Sharif ) But what is meant by that "chance" that they have so long as they are alive? Does it also depend upon the will of God or does it depend upon their own fault?
( Bapak ) God created human beings for mankind and the uses of mankind. If it has subsequently happened that people have gone wrong, that is the fault of the people themselves. For that reason, people have to improve through their own work. Thus the life of human beings in this world is like someone sowing seeds. Whatever is sown, its fruits will automatically be reaped. If in his life in this world someone sows the seeds of something to kill other people, that is what he will subsequently reap. But if what is sown is something really beneficial for mankind, such as wheat, apples, and so on, that is also the harvest that will be reaped.
Thus whatever is sown, that is what the harvest will later on become. It is like the way things are at the present time. At present people in general nearly all feel worried, and even more so in America. They are worried about the possibility that a third world war may break out, and that if that third world war does break out, that it will annihilate a large part of mankind in this world. That is always on their minds. Yet what destroys mankind is mankind itself. Thus it is clear that nowadays it is as if the weapons feed upon their masters. What human beings themselves have made becomes an object of fear to human beings. Thus the things that they have made are like a bogey haunting human beings at this present time. Yet these things will be no danger unless people use them. Like firearms; people need not be afraid of a revolver, they need not be afraid of a pistol, unless that pistol is used. Thus what is dangerous is not the pistol but the person who uses it.
Because of this, if God grants that the development of this Latihan Kejiwaan flourishes, so that it can become widespread, then eventually the person who holds a pistol in his hand will not use it for anything out of place, for instance. So too with nuclear weapons, the nuclear weapons will be annihilated and destroyed. If the people who possess these nuclear weapons and have authority in nuclear matters have a human jiwa, which they have obtained through the Latihan Kejiwaan of Subud. It will therefore be of very great significance and benefit for human beings, if we are able to make the effort so that it can become widespread. That is all.
Because Bapak has already told you a great deal, Bapak will now end this meeting, and tomorrow night Bapak will also still have to exert himself to test with you and to watch the members' latihan. Bapak therefore ends this meeting and wishes you a good rest and bids you good afternoon.
