Brothers and sisters, Bapak wants to tell you clearly that Anugraha has been set up - in fact this was Bapak's wish - not as an ordinary undertaking but as something that encompasses the whole of Subud. Furthermore, Bapak also wishes that it should contain within it a Subud international Center.

What is Bapak's purpose in creating this, and what is the purpose of Anugraha asking for contributions, for help, from Subud all over the world? This is in order that Anugraha, following Bapak's wish, should enable Britain to become the pioneer in spreading this latihan kejiwaan of Subud. And why does Bapak put Britain first as the pioneer? Because Bapak's first trip abroad was to Britain, and from there eventually to the whole world.

Bapak's intention in locating the first international center in Britain is that both the organization and the kejiwaan will then be centered in Britain. And the reason why Bapak locates this in Britain, as Bapak just said and will now repeat, is because Britain was the first country Bapak came to from Indonesia.

Establishing an international center in Britain embracing both the kejiwaan and the organization is so that in this Britain should serve as a precursor or a model for other countries. Bapak wants to do this because Bapak is a human being who, no matter what, is subject to illness and also subject to death. So, who knows, one day Bapak will die. And if then there is not yet an established regulation for Subud in the world it will inevitably become disordered. It is for this reason that before Bapak dies, Bapak will first arrange that neither the kejiwaan nor the organization will fall under the authority of one person, one country or one nation. Bapak doesn't need to relate other examples, but that is how it should be, this Subud should truly belong to mankind throughout the world.

So for four years or whatever it will be in Britain, presided over or directed by the people there and then after five or four years it will move to Australia and Australia will then also possess a similar institution a dewan of the kejiwaan and the organization. Eventually after 5 years in Australia it will move again, let us say, to Tokyo, to Japan. So Japan will also then, as it were, have authority in the spiritual as well as in the material field, that is, in the kejiwaan and the organization. From Japan it can then move to America where the situation will be the same; from America move again to Europe, to France, say, or to Switzerland or Germany. They all take turns.

The point of this is to ensure that, with the passage of time, those Subud members who have made progress will feel less and less fanatically inclined towards a certain place, or towards a certain country. For it is clear that this latihan kejiwaan of Subud comes from God for mankind.

It is lucky that in the first place God gave this gift of mankind to Bapak, for although Bapak is an Indonesian, he has been able to receive that this is not for the Javanese, it is not for Bapak himself, not for his family and not for his nation, it is for mankind.

This is why Bapak says that that which exists in the latihan kejiwaan has never before occurred in the world. Not since the beginning, not since the time of Abraham has such a thing existed, for this is what is called hakekat. Hakekat is reality. For man has been given a mind and intelligence so that he can reflect upon, so that he weight anything for himself no matter what it is, lest he simply follows passively, lest he just imitates, lest he only parrots what is done in another place or by another person so that what he does is only imitation and does not arise, does not grow from within his own being. Whereas God is not the God of one nation but the God of mankind, of all nations in this world.

For example, here in Indonesia, where as you yourselves know in general about 90% of the population follow the Islamic religion, if it were to happen - of course we hope it will not - that the power here were to come into the hands of those who are fanatic Muslims, then it is sure that they would not like to have Subud in Indonesia, especially in Java. The proof is that in Kelantan hundreds of people were opened but as soon as the government found out that among Subud members there are many who are not Muslims, that there are Christians, Buddhists, Hindus and others, the government decided to ban Subud from operating in Kelantan because the majority there are religious people. So all these many members who were already opened in Kelantan have been as it were neglected because we are not allowed to do latihan there. That is, we would only be allowed to do latihan there if we did it according to the religion of Islam, meaning that we perform our 5 daily prayers, etc.

This is an example, brothers and sisters. Here the same thing could happen for here there are also many Muslims, with the result that Subud could be stopped to do the latihan. Now, if such a thing happened, since Subud has already spread all over the world, if it is closed down here, it will flourish there, if it is stopped there it will flourish somewhere else; so it will not be extinguished, it will continue to live, continue to flourish and will always remain the property of mankind.

This is Bapak's wish, brothers and sisters. Just for example, suppose Subud is flourishing in Italy, and the majority of Italians are Christians. It could also happen that once they found out that in Subud there are Muslims, there are Hindus, there are Buddhists and so on, and that in Subud we do not worship according to the way the Christians do, Subud could also be forbidden there. So then it will stop there but will continue to flourish here.

This will demonstrate that Subud is truly alive and cannot be stopped. And if it is like that, then Bapak, as a human being, needs to organize things in the way Bapak has just explained.

Brothers and sisters, this in short, is the reason why Bapak has to arrange that the place for the development of Subud keeps moving from place to place, so that Subud will truly be able to develop in freedom and without restriction.

Brothers and sisters, this world organization is for man and it is man who makes the rules. So we have partly to believe in God and partly to believe in man himself. And it is for this reason that there are two laws. The law which is made by man which is called the fundamental law, or civil law which was first of all established in Europe and another law, that is the law of Allah, the law that comes from God, in other words, religion. For this reason in the world things are always discordant, always awkward. People who are religious would like to see the law in this world brought in to harmony with the law of religion while those who have no religion or those who's religion has become truly broadminded prefer that the law in this world should be trained by man himself. In other words, ordinary law. This has gone on up till now. There also still exists in places that which is laid down in religion, as for example in Pakistan. In Pakistan it can be said that three fourths of the law is the law of Allah, the law of the hereafter; that is why in Pakistan it still happens that a person who has committed a crime, a crime in the first category which would normally be punished with several years in jail, for that in Pakistan they are beheaded. And someone who performs a crime like stealing a chicken, stealing a goat, etc., they are not beheaded but their hand is cut off. In Pakistan this still hold good. In Arab counties it also holds true in some cases and not in others. It is quite peculiar whereas matters of this world should remain worldly: according to God's decree this world has to be organized by man but protected by the power of God, meaning, through testing like we do in Subud. When whatever it is has been decided, when we have decided in an ordinary way that is with thinking and the heart, then we test it through the latihan. However, people in religion don't do it like that. What they would like is that things are decided, if by Moslems, according what is in Islam, according to what is said in the Al-Koran; so if a person is wrong, really wrong, then the punishment only can be that of beheading. So there is not much ceremony, not much procedure one can say.

This is how it is, brothers and sisters. But for us we can see that the latihan kejiwaan of Subud is something that is ordinary, an analogy of our life as human beings. You yourselves have been able to feel it, for example, why are we require to walk, and even to move our hands? You have all been able to witness this during the testing that Bapak has done. So it is clear that the will of Almighty God for man is that when man lives in the world he should concern himself with the world and think about it as thoroughly as he can in accordance that which is God's will and this can be tested by means of seeing ourselves from our nafsu as we do in this month of fasting. Therefore this fast in the month of Ramadhan is intended as a training for Muslims lest they should consider things according to the law of the hereafter but rather according to the law of the world but considered by means of freeing themselves from the nafsu so that they can receive from Almighty God. While the way that comes from Almighty God is that human beings should act and follow according to that which is customary and prevalent and in accordance with what is wanted and what is natural for man's life in this world. Like that.

So it is clear brothers and sisters, that the latihan kejiwaan of Subud explains to us all, to all of you, that God does not exist only in the hereafter but God is here in this world.

If God' s power did not exist in this world the world would not exist.

So it is clear that God exists because man exists; man exists because God exists. That is consistent. It is the same as a king and his subjects: there would be no king if there are no subjects, there will be no president, as it is now a days, if there are no people. Conversely the people will not develop or be organized if there is no king or no president. So there must then be one who organizes and the one who is organized. It is the same when you eat: you can eat because there is food and what is the food for? It is so that you can eat it. That is consistent.

So it is clear brothers and sisters, that God is not only in the hereafter but also in this world. Therefore man' s mistakes must be put right by man himself. So supposing you have committed an error. Don't then ask God to put it right. Put it right yourself. But do that by means of putting aside the nafsu, putting aside your desire, your heart and thinking. And to put aside the heart and the thinking and the nafsu is not easy unless a person is truly willing to give up temporarily that which is habitual, for example, eating - and hence we have this fast. So by doing this fast human beings are able to reduce the passion of the nafsu and train themselves in the method of paralyzing, or putting aside, of extinguishing of the strength of the nafsus which always influences the self.

But normally brothers and sisters, as Bapak reads in the paper, during the fasting month People who fast make a special effort to provide food that is special, for example, if normally they don't eat buns or cakes, costing thousands of rupiahs then they will buy rolls like that to eat when they are breaking their fast. Or if they don't normally eat goat or chicken then they will slaughter not only chicken or goat but a cow or if they could, maybe even an elephant. So their fast is not directed towards purity, is not directed towards clarity, is not directed towards peace, is not directed towards freedom from the influence of the nafsu so they might receive the quadar from God.

The quadar is the gift of God so it is clear why then it is that people do the fast every year for decades without receiving anything. So this brothers and sisters, is the difference. Bapak is not setting Subud apart or saying that it is better than anything else - no, this due to God's grace, that what is called or which is received in the fasting month, the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th night has the same content as what is received in Subud. Do you imagine that we can put aside the nafsu? It is not possible for us to put aside the nafsu, brothers and sisters. The one who can do that is only God and that is called the quadar. So if you have receive, if you are in the state of receiving the latihan kejiwaan then the nafsu as it where, is put aside - like that. There is only your own self which is capable of feeling that which God wills. For this reason Subud members or Subud brothers and sisters who do the latihan kejiwaan will receive something that is unexpected, something that you don't suspect so it is clear brothers and sisters that once you don't think of anything, once you have no expectation whatsoever, meaning that you don' t have any more wish than just to worship Almighty God, then God will give you His explanation of what is right for you, for a human being. That is how it is brothers and sisters. This is an explanation of regarding the latihan kejiwaan of Subud which is also connected to what Bapak is going to say about Anugraha and all that.

Like what has happen here bothers and sisters, Bapak frankly admits that Bapak would not have been able to build a latihan hall like that, and Bapak would not have been able to spread this Subud, this latihan kejiwaan if it were not for all of you. This is the same as saying, that thanks to all of you, there is Bapak and thanks to Bapak there is all of you.

But of course if you say it in passing, the normal way of understanding, it is to say that it is all of because of Bapak that Subud exists because of Bapak. Actually it is not so. In the same way because of helpers there are members, and it is because there are members that there have to be helpers and that helpers are able to increase the membership. That is how it is brothers and sisters. So Bapak can explain here, for example, that in Indonesia that Bapak has been able to build a latihan hall, to build this building ( S. Widjojo Center ) thanks to all of you. So clearly the parent must think of the needs of his children while the children also consider the needs of their parents. You consider the needs of Bapak and Bapak considers the needs of all of you, considers the needs of all the members. The members consider the needs of the helpers and so on. So all of that works in a way that is consequent, that is consistent so that we remember that we don't live alone in world. We can live because of our friends, because of other nationalities so if today someone still has the feeling of wishing to stand alone then the world will not develop.

This is the explanation of what happened in Germany and also in Italy, with the Nazis and Fascists. What they wanted, was to live alone, to become the strongest so that there would not be another nation as strong, as good, as safe, as serene as the German nation and the Italian nation - that is impossible; what happened? Chaos. The whole world was in turmoil.

The same thing is happening now, brothers and sisters, even if the communists claimed that communism makes all human beings equal so that there should not be any more rich nor those who are destitute. The poor will be the same as the rich, the rich as the same as the poor so this world will become orderly. That is just an idea, but it is impossible. So it is clear, brothers and sisters that we have to remember we cannot live alone. We live with others, as is the case with our own being: try to think of it this way.

If you think about it, the one who has the heaviest task among the members of your body in your life is your legs. It is your legs that take you everywhere and if you have to lift something it is your legs that have to carry it. So there were not those weak people you would not have become strong. So what you say is not consequent. Truly brothers and sisters, God will give instruction to man by way of the latihan kejiwaan which all of you practice.

And now brothers and sisters, Bapak has to some extent digress to this and that, down to small details like Bapak has just discussed. Now let us return to the establishment of Anugraha. So Anugraha needs support from all of you and Anugraha will not forget it. If on occasion you are later in the same situation as Anugraha is in now and need to build up your strength there, for example like in Australia, Anugraha will be willing to help as they have already experience the same thing. So Anugraha will not become successful, will not become a strong establishment if it doesn't get support from all of you, and the rest of you will get help in return later so that we become human beings who are truly harmonious and who truly work for the good of mankind.

This is the reason brothers and sisters, in summary why it is necessary for Anugraha always to approach you for support and it does not mean that later when it is strong it will not remember you when you need help for example.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, it remains now whether Anugraha or the brothers and sisters in England can truly put this together or not - this is a test. So the support from all of you outside the UK represents assist for the brothers and sisters in the UK - are they able or not to make it in to something in the way Bapak has done here? Bapak received help from ever one though it was not necessarily free but he got it from all of you and was able to form it into this building. Thereby providing a proof that can be describe as realistic. Everything has to be proved ( tested ) . Therefore for the brothers and sisters in the UK who are doing the work on Anugraha this is a heavy burden because they must be able to utilize the support from all of you in order to carry out that which was intended.

This is not just the work for now, brothers and sisters, perhaps later there will be something even larger, in the UK its self, also in Australia and also in other places. So it is very necessary for us that we are truly harmonious, truly help each other, truly trust each other and truly value each other whereby everything will be accomplished.

This is why Bapak says that it is necessary that we do enterprises because with prayer alone, if we only worship Almighty God and do not do the work then these things will not materialize and they can only materialize if we also make use of whatever exists in this world, the fruits of this world, for example, capital in the form of money or whatever we can use to build our ideals and our goals. This. is an approach which mankind through out the world truly longs for, that is an attitude of social responsibility that is truly democratic. It is possible for us to discriminate - whatever mankind needs and whatever we need for our life in this world so that in this world we achieve a state that is truly harmonious and that can become a place that is holy for the practice of worship and the worship of Almighty God.

Bapak feels this is enough as Bapak doesn't want to take up all the time. So it is clear that the purpose of Anugraha as Bapak has said earlier is to provide one place among several where we can disseminate that which we have received from God and can help Subud to grow throughout the world until we can say every person is able to feel the nature of this latihan kejiwaan of Subud whereby it is truly possible for each person to receive the guidance and direction of Almighty God beyond his own thinking and nafsu.

Since you still need time for certain things that are necessary Bapak will conclude his talk or his explanation at this point and prays that everything will be accomplished in the right way and receive God's blessing. That is all. Thank you.
