In the beginning the Dharma Book Company, set up here in America, printed only books and articles, and Talks that Bapak had given in various places; but later on Bapak felt the need to have the Dharma Book Company print the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud, which was produced in Jakarta. This came about because it was very difficult to print the Pewarta in Indonesia, and the materials that were needed were hard to obtain. Bapak was therefore obliged to hand on this work to America, so in the end it was printed over here. Maybe many of you from various other countries have never even heard about this Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud. But in reality it is very important for all of you, who are spread all over the world, because the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud is published by Bapak himself, and is therefore a source for the Subud periodicals that are published in various different places.

In the Pewarta there are many things Bapak Talks about that you need to know. Therefore it is very important for you to read it, so that you become acquainted with its contents, which are really useful for all of you.

Certainly you will have read in the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud, which is sent here regularly, that this Subud latihan is a training – although it shouldn't really be called training – that consists of carrying out whatever you receive while you do it. Therefore, you can say that this spiritual training comes from the power of God, which you receive every time the influence of your desires, heart and mind is brought to a stop.

Brothers and sisters, although you have heard and read articles, and read the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud , where Bapak Talks about the way of the latihan, it is also good if he tells you in person about the process of the latihan, the spiritual training you have received and are doing.

This Subud latihan has spread all over the world. One could say that all nations are able to receive it; every nation is able to receive God’s grace to do the latihan. This strengthens our conviction that the rapid spread of the latihan is God’s will, so that in just five years it has spread all over the world. Bapak doesn’t need to tell you this: you can read it in the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud, which Bapak is sending out from Indonesia and which is printed in America – in New York – and in the Chronicle, which is published in England.

It is up to the chairperson and the secretary to work out how to create and organise a publication here. The members and the helpers can provide the content, together with material taken from the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud and the Chronicle. In this way the material can be spread and read among all the members here, which will be very beneficial for them.

Brothers and sisters, Bapak does not know what questions are yet to come, but if he answers any more it will only stir up your hearts and minds. It would be better if those who have asked these questions could, later on when they have time, read the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud, in which there are already many explanations given by Bapak, and there will be more in the following issues. As this is the last evening, it would be a great pity if Bapak were only to answer these questions and not give you a talk.

And if the helpers and those in the committee would like to know about their duties and responsibilities, as Bapak has no time to explain them tonight, he asks all of you who are helpers and committee members to reread the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud from the first to the last issue. This is so that you become aware of your duties, and how to open and how to accompany your fellow members in the latihan.

Tonight Bapak will explain about the meaning and purpose of the latihan, the spiritual training that you have been doing. Although Bapak has often explained it and has written about it in the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud, it is a good idea to explain it again, so that you can really understand it. He needs to reconfirm it because there are still many of you who have not yet grasped and do not yet follow the principles and the purpose of the Subud latihan.

This is the end of Bapak’s talk tonight. Please do not feel disappointed that his talk is only one hour long. In order to fulfil your wish to hear or to read what Bapak has to say, he suggests that you read the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud, which Bapak himself is publishing from Jakarta, Indonesia, and in which there are many talks that he has given.

Bapak will not explain the other responsibilities of helpers this evening, because you can find out about them in the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud and understand them in detail. You can also find out the responsibilities of the committee from what Bapak has written in the Chronicle and the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud.

There must still be other things you need to know, but it is already late. And Bapak has written everything the helpers need to know, and everything he wants them to know, in the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud. So if you get the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud, you will be able to read there what Bapak has written.

Therefore Bapak will not go on much longer with his explanations about the responsibilities of the helpers. You will be able to know it all from reading the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud that you have been sent. And equally, with regard to the committee, Bapak has written down everything that they need to know.

Bapak: Is that the Chronicle? And – what do they call it, for publishing the talks, which they are always talking about – the Subud Journal? Mas Usman: Yes, it includes the Subud Journal and the Pewarta.
Christopher Gardiner: Bapak, our first question arising from the constitution is from this: we have tried to keep the constitution as simple and as flexible as possible, and we have based it on the guidance that we have already had from Bapak in his various letters and in the guiding principles and in what is printed in the Pewarta under the constitution for Subud Indonesia.

Barry Sullivan: Well, we receive many and we put them in the Pewarta already, but not all people read the Pewarta. Bapak: Not in the Pewarta; put it in the Subud Chronicle and the Subud Journal. Barry Sullivan: Would Bapak like us to make an anthology from all the old Pewartas? We have perhaps four volumes: thirty Pewartas or twenty five Pewartas from the past. Would it be right to put them into a book – from the past – as well? BAPAK: Yes.

Brothers and sisters, although Bapak has given explanations in the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud and Aneka Subud about the coming and presence of the Latihan Kejiwaan, nevertheless it appears that there are still many brothers and sisters who are not yet able to understand it. Therefore Bapak would now like to explain this once again so that you can really understand.

That seems to be enough for now. Bapak has already explained the duties of helpers in the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud, and it is difficult for him to repeat everything. So he feels that this description or explanation of the responsibilities of the helpers is more or less enough. And now Bapak will give an explanation to the committee, who have the responsibility of working on worldly things, like keeping track of the members, preparing a place for the latihan, and looking after the money.

May Almighty God repay you suitably for this service. And also Bapak always prays that you may all really be able to give effect to what Bapak has just been saying, as well as what he has written in the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud, which is always to hand.

And in addition, as something that will give you all encouragement, you can ask for the periodical that is written by Bapak himself, the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud, which is published in New York in America. You can get that; you can contact … Usman: England. It is now published in England. Bapak: You can contact the group in England. There are many explanations from Bapak in it that you all need. When Bapak talks, he tells you only the most important things, but you need also to know the details and other things. You will be able to find all that in this periodical that Bapak publishes in Jakarta – which is printed in England – and also things that the helpers and the committee need to know about their duties and responsibilities.

Brothers and sisters, as Bapak always says and also writes in The Pewarta and other publications, the latihan kejiwaan of Subud which you receive is a latihan originating from Almighty God. It comes to you by the Will of God.

Brothers and sisters, it is now time for Bapak to give you some explanations about the process of the latihan of Susila Budhi Dharma that you receive and practise, so that you may have a better awareness and understanding of the true purpose of the Subud latihan, and of the meaning contained in the words Susila Budhi Dharma. Even though you are able to read explanations about this in the Chronicleor the Pewarta Kejiwaan Subud, it may be clearer if Bapak speaks to you about it in person.

The results from this can be said to be satisfactory, for in the last communication from S.N.A. before I left Los Angeles, I received a report that for the first time S.N.A. had a balance of several thousand Rupiahs (sic.). Thus in this way, paying by installments, S.N.A. can pay off its debts not only to the members but also to ISCC. For in the former situation when the members sent their subscription money to S.N.A. for the Pewartas, for S.W.N., S.N.A. was obliged to use it for operating expenses, so that finally S.N.A. could not pay ISCC. Praise be to God that it has been possible to overcome such a situation, and according to the latest communications S.N.A. already has a balance of’ several thousand rupiahs (sic.).

Amen. Bapak Muhammad-Subuh Sumohadiwidjojo
